The PSP version of Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings differs from the PS2/Wii versions and the Nintendo DS version. The general plot is the same, as it takes place in 1939, just before World War II begins. Indiana Jones is looking for the Staff of Moses, even though it is not the primary mission until halfway through the game. It starts at a Mayan ruin with Charles Kingston leading Jones to the final resting place of the jade sphere, a Mayan astronomy handbook. Magnus Völler, another coworker, goes off alone and swiftly runs into difficulty. When the plot continues a few years later, Jones is in San Francisco; the sphere becomes a source of conflict. He receives a phone call from Archie Tan, who is being pursued by the Chinese and holds his granddaughter Suzy hostage. Jones must penetrate Chinatown to save both. The sphere then transports him to Panama and Nepal—the significance of the Staff of Moses and Magnus Völler as the primary antagonist is gradually revealed.
The game comprises a variety of action sequences with planned events, a lot of combat, and some puzzle-solving aspects. Indy can fight in melee with various punches and combos, utilize a gun and a whip, and influence the environment. Many items, such as bottles, spears, or chairs, can be picked up and used as weapons, while others must be manipulated to gather clues, activate valves, or lower platforms. There are frequently maze-like level layouts and time constraints to accomplish them.
There are hidden objects to find and a variety of primary and secondary objectives that award Glory and Fortune points. These can improve Indy’s abilities (such as more health, a robust defense, or harsher punches) and unlock concept art or cheats.
