U-1 is a regular boy who aims to improve his skateboarding skills so that he can win the heart of Pico, the girl he has his eye on. U-1 has no idea that he is the last living descendent of Gitaroo Man, a great superhero who could defeat enemies using his magical guitar. As U-1, it is up to you to save the day, beat the bad guys, and snag the gal for Gitaroo Man!
Gitaroo Man Lives! is an improved version of the original Gitaroo Man video game released for the PlayStation 2. You play the part of U-1, and the adversaries you face can be defeated by strumming your guitar. Gitaroo Man Lives! Features numerous stages of combat throughout the game. The first phase is called the Charge phase, and it requires you to keep your finger on the Circle Button while also tilting the Analog Stick in the direction that a line seems to be pointing on the screen during its whole. If you perform exceptionally well in this phase, you will enter the Battle Phase with more significant power at your disposal. During this phase, you will alternate between attacking (similar to the Charge Phase) and guarding (which requires pressing the appropriate buttons at the proper times to block attacks). If you are successful in these two phases, you will advance to the Final Phase and have the opportunity to eliminate your opponent.
Gitaroo Man Lives! also supports play in ad hoc mode, making it suitable for multiplayer engagements. There is room for up to two people to compete against each other in the “VS Mode,” or they can choose to work together in the “Duet Mode,” which is exclusive to the PSP. In this mode, brand-new tracks have been composed specifically for head-to-head competition between two players.
