The blockbuster film G.I. Joe was released in 2009, and the video game G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is based on that film. However, the video game has a new plot distinct from the movie. In the video game, an elite group of warriors must fight against the evil Cobra Commander and prevent his organization from taking over the world.
The gameplay is quite similar to that of Neo Contra; it is played from behind the player’s back, and the player has access to several weaponry, such as machine guns and rocket launchers, as well as the Delta 6 Accelerator Suit, which renders the player invulnerable for a brief amount of time. The player must use various weapons and accessories to make his way through a horde of adversaries, which may include infantry, tanks, and jet fighters, in addition to the typical monsters who appear at the end of each stage.
Each of the game’s 12 playable Joes has its unique weapon and set of strengths dependent on its rank (Commandos are excellent at shooting at close range, Heavy Weapons are good at shooting from long distances, and Soldiers are good at a mix of both). The player can also use a variety of vehicles that are strategically placed throughout the game’s levels. However, the player can only select from a specific set of Joe’s at the beginning of the game and unlock additional ones by completing missions. The game also has a two-player drop-in/drop-out co-op mode, enabling fun anytime. However, if a human ally is not present during gaming, the game’s artificial intelligence (AI) will take control of the second soldier that appears on the screen.
