Alien Crush Returns is a remake of the original TurboGrafx-16 game Alien Crush, updated for the modern gaming era. It is the fourth installment in the Crush Pinball series and can only be downloaded through the WiiWare service, making it exclusive to that platform.
It has three different tables or levels with polygonal visuals in three dimensions and internet leaderboards. The “tilt” function of the table can still be used, and motion control is responsible for implementing this feature. The paddles can be controlled by simple button presses using the Wii Remote or the Nunchuck.
The game incorporates something called Action Balls, which are special abilities that may be applied to the ball while the player is playing the game. For example, one movement will give the ball a momentary boost in speed, enabling it to bounce and rebound further and even crash through some obstacles that the ball would typically only bounce off of. The acts have to be acquired before they can be used, and there is a cooldown period between each use because many uses can be saved up. High scores for a single player can also be saved in Alien Crush Returns. Additionally, the game has a story mode about a conflict between aliens and space marines and random boss fights.
