The 2008 Smackdown vs. Raw edition introduces new elements to the WWE game franchise. This is the first in the series to feature ECW’s extremes, like The Sandman, Marcus Cor Von, and CM Punk.
The game also has a new struggle submission system, additional weapon options like guitars, and eight superstar fighting styles such as Showman, Powerhouse, and High-Flyer. Each player can now select a primary and secondary fighting style. It follows the legend tradition and introduces new arenas such as Wrestlemania 23, Unforgiven, and Summerslam, as well as great superstars such as The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, and Ric Flair. The platform heavily influences the roster, with specific versions featuring wrestlers not found in others.
The previous games’ season and general manager modes have been integrated into the WWE 24/7 mode (PlayStation, Xbox 360), allowing you to create a new superstar, play as an existing one, or manage someone. This is known as Main Event mode in the Wii version in the Wii version, and there is no opportunity to work with wrestlers.
A new Tournament mode with numerous difficulties is now available. Match types include Iron Man, Battle Royal, Hell in a Cell, Tables, Ladders, Chairs, Hardcore, Ladder, Elimination Chamber, and Royal Rumble. The Wii version includes five match types: single (one-on-one), tag team (two on two), and k.o. Match, triple threat, and hardcore. It lacks the WWE Shop and has a limited move repertoire, but it does contain Mii integration (menu panels and in-game HUD) and motion-sensing strikes based on the controllers.
The Xbox 360 version allows users to utilize personalized music during entrances, whereas the PS3 version allows viewing the sequences in first person. They are the only ones that have online multiplayer.
