Sony’s PlayStation Portable (PSP) is the platform for the swashbuckling action-adventure game Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest. Players take on the role of Jack Sparrow, a notorious (or at least ‘heard of’) pirate. The game is a non-linear, action-packed, three-dimensional game emphasizing pick-it-up/put-it-down gameplay. Throughout the game, the player engages in sword fights with the undead, swings from the rigging, flees from cannibals, and frees treasure that has been booby-trapped.
The multiplayer mode of Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest is a ship combat game that allows one to four people to compete against each other in various ship-to-ship cannon engagements over a wireless network. People select one of five unique ships in the game to fight against one another. A sophisticated upgrading system allows players to modify their ship and crew between matches entirely, and the game has several different maps and power-ups in the vein of pirate games.
