Lumines II

The sequel to Lumines sticks faithfully to the original puzzle game while adding some tweaks. The gameplay is the same: you arrange blocks comprised of four smaller block pieces with two colors each to construct forms with an identical color, such as a square of four or more parts. The blocks on the board can be rotated and stacked with each other. When a vertical line crosses the screen, all combinations are deleted, generating chain combos and clearing the board. It would be best if you kept the blocks from piling up to the top of the screen, and you can also use special blocks to remove multiple blocks at once. Games are played against colorful backgrounds, with the timeline speed matching the level’s music and the blocks’ falling speed increasing as you progress through the game.

The game modes are either new or reworked. There are three difficulty classes in the single-player Challenge mode. You gain access to new music, skins, and game modes by completing levels. One of these is the Endurance challenge runs, in which you must play through all the game skins. In addition to fun with normal skins, several backgrounds now include 3D animations or music videos from famous musicians. The sound effects and block design are frequently modified to fit the song. Levels featuring music video skins cannot be cleared at a faster rate since you must continue playing until the song concludes.

The additional single-player modes are Time Attack (achieve a high score in a limited amount of time; you can even record your session) and Puzzle (make forms). You can also test the computer in VS CPU Mode. In this game, you must outscore your opponent to reduce his playing field until he becomes stuck. This game type is also accessible in Duel mode versus a human opponent over Wi-Fi. In the new Skin Edit option, you can specify the order of the skins. The Single Lap part lets you create your playlists for a specific run, but the Endless Lap portion enables you to choose or omit skins to keep playing for as long as you want. There are a total of 60 levels and 100 skins.

Another new element is the Mission mode, which requires more planning. You are assigned specified chores to complete in limited time or blocks. You can write your songs in the new Sequencer mode. The game has speed control settings and 8 unique music sheets to add notes and effects. High scores, playlists from the Skin Edit mode, tracks from the Sequencer mode, and Time Attack mode replays can be shared with other players through Wi-Fi. Your performance is tracked in the Database mode, which provides statistics on your playing sessions. A demo of Every Extend Extra, another puzzle game from Q ENTERTAINMENT, Inc., is also included.
