This remake of the original Final Fantasy II is built around the Game Boy Advance version of the game, which was based on the earlier WonderSwan Color remake. This makes this remake similar to the previously re-released Final Fantasy, also based on the Game Boy Advance version. It includes all the bonuses available in the Game Boy edition, including Soul of Rebirth. Still, it also has new and enhanced graphics, a 16:9 screen format with letters that are easier to see, and higher-quality music and sound. Additionally, the CG opening sequence from the PlayStation edition has been remade in a 16:9 aspect ratio. In addition to that, it features illustration galleries created by Yoshitaka Amano.
There is a brand new dungeon that has been given the name “Arcane Sanctuary.” The jail uses a “word memory system,” based on the word that is selected, a different set of foes and an entirely new experience will be presented to the player. In addition, just like in the GBA version, a bestiary and a BGM music player may be unlocked. Other aspects of the game remain unchanged in the GBA port; the difficulty level is the same as in Dawn of Souls.
