Heavy Barrel

Heavy Barrel is a shooting game released by Data East for Nintendo in 1987. At the army base, engineers are researching to produce nuclear missiles. After successful research, the engineers designed a device to control missile activity. Catching the situation, terrorists have invaded the base and stole this device to carry out their worldwide terrorist plot. The task of the player will have to invade the enemy’s base to regain control equipment and destroy their leader.

Like most Nintendo shooters, Heavy Barrel is divided into several main stages. At the end of each stage, a final boss will appear and you will have to destroy it to get to the next stage. Each main stage is broken down into levels with increasing difficulty. At the beginning of the game, players will be equipped with a long gun with an unlimited number of bullets and a number of grenades. The attack power of this long gun will be quite weak even though the bullets fired are continuous. You will have to hit the enemy many times to be able to destroy them. However, you can upgrade your weapons by picking up items shaped like bullets that drop after defeating an enemy. When you collect these items of the same type, you will be able to double the number of bullets fired. If the character dies, the effects of the weapon will be lost and you must use the original type of ammunition. In addition, enemies also drop items that have different effects after being destroyed. For example, items with a cross will help you increase your life once. The circular item will protect the character from enemy attacks for a short time. When you defeat an enemy, you can even pick up a box. After opening this box, players will receive one of six weapons with great damage.

The heavy weapons have the ability to destroy any enemy in the game with just a single hit except boss objects at all levels. However, the use of these weapons will be lost and the player will reuse the previous weapon. When defeating a boss they will drop items with a larger number than normal enemies. You will have to start from the start point if your HP is already zero. You can save your progress during the game. This allows you to continue playing the last level you saved instead of starting over at the first level.
