In a different timeline, Mario was killed while fighting Bowser, and the Mushroom Kingdom has since descended into chaos. Bowser eventually took control of the kingdom, and no one has been able to put an end to his wicked tyranny. But Mario’s dead body emerges from his grave and transforms into a ghost. He seeks retribution and attempts to thwart Bowser’s evil scheme by reflecting on his errors.
