Pokemon Fire Red Omega is a hack that adds many features to make the game more interesting and advanced for advanced players. The first and most noticeable change is the sheer number of Pokemon available—over 30 in the opening routes/Viridian forest, and all 389 in the game. Evolution stones can be accessed earlier, and trade-evolution Pokemon evolve by level up, making everything fair. Wild Pokemon and trainers are usually higher levels, so your Pokemon grow quickly. However, the battles are difficult, so you’ll need all your strength. The gym leaders are tough and have 6 Pokemon. Rhyhorn’s Flamethrower OHKO’s Shroomish, so you can’t just catch a grass and beat Brock. Raichu outspeeds and OHKOes you with Surf, so Nidoking or Diglett won’t beat Surge. Not all Pokemon can be useful throughout the game due to bosses’ difficulty. You can’t just grind early game Pokemon and expect to win. Since high-level and powerful teammates are readily available, switching teams midway through is a viable strategy. Old R/B favorites like Nidoqueen and Snorlax won’t get you through the game! Poke nerds can really be tested on this frontier!
