Fire’ n Ice is a puzzle game developed by Tecmo. The game officially debuted in Japan in 1992 and in Europe and North America in 1993. The plot revolves around a powerful witch Dana and her journey with the mission of rescuing her homeland. In the northern sea, there is a small island made of ice called Coolmint. On this beautiful little ice island, there are many Winter Elves living in peace. Suddenly, the evil witch Druidle appears and uses her magic to activate the magical fire on Coolmint Island! Flames scattered throughout the island and began to melt the ice, threatening the island’s survival. The fire was too strong for the fairies so there was nothing they could do. The queen of the fairies knew about the danger the winter fairies were facing, so she called a witch to fight the fire by Druidle released. The fairy that was chosen to protect the island was Dana. Right now, Dana is still an apprentice magus and has very little magical power of her own. However, with her keen eyes, the Queen knew that Dana was smarter and possessed more courage than anyone else. Later, the Queen gave Dana some special magic that can be used to put out the dangerous fire and Dana’s journey began.
Dana will begin her mission on a map of nine worlds, each of which consists of nine common levels and one difficulty level. You can choose any regular level you want to play, instead of being forced to play in a specific order. Each basic level will be puzzled consisting of a small area, in which there will be immovable blocks, blocks ice, flames. The goal of each level is to extinguish all flames. She can move around and climb on any block if it’s nothing above (one by one) except the flames. She can push ice cubes in one direction continuously until she is blocked by another block or wall. Dana’s most important ability is her ice magic. Dana can create and remove adjacent ice blocks beneath her by waving her wand whenever Dana wants or needs it. Each flame will be extinguished by an ice cube by sliding an ice cube into the flame or dropping them into a fire from above. Of course, Dana will not be able to eliminate the flames with her wand. As the levels progress, the puzzles become more complex, players need to use the available things more creatively if they want to complete the game.
