A continuation of the Battlefront series, Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron is an exclusive PlayStation Portable (PSP) title. Once again, the player assumes leadership of either The Rebellion, The Galactic Empire, The Republic Clone Army, or The CIS Droid Army. There are a variety of heroes and villains available for each side, including Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Han Solo, as well as Boba Fett, Darth Maul, and Darth Vader, among many other characters.
It has the same game types as its predecessors, such as Galactic Conquest, in which the player chooses which side they wish to fight on and does combat against their adversaries on a vast battlefield. The victor of that conflict will be granted the ability to select which planet to assault next, and the game will be over once the home planet of either faction has been conquered by its adversaries.
The story of the Campaign mode is recounted from the point of view of a young Jedi at the end of the Star Wars Saga. In this mode, the young Jedi discovers the unknown history of the Renegade Squadron, which was established by none other than Han Solo after the battle of Yavin IV. These conflicts are experienced by the player via playing as warriors of the Rebellion and commanders of the rebels like Han Solo and Leia Organa. To progress through the game, the player must complete specific requirements associated with each mission. Cutscenes in the form of comic books are interspersed with voiceovers to tell the plot.
The class system has been completely reworked compared to the previous games, and players can now personalize their warriors by choosing the weapons they want to equip before entering combat. Battles in space are also included in this edition of the game, and players can pilot iconic vessels such as the Millennium Falcon, Tie Fighters, and Star Destroyers.
In addition, there are online capabilities that can support up to 16 people through Infrastructure and up to eight players through ad hoc, and there is a specific spending system has been established so that players can buy customized kits and create new characters from scratch.
