NBA Street is a portable game for the Playstation Portable.
NBA Street is a three-on-three basketball game played under street rules. NBA Street Showdown is the series’ first installment for the PSP handheld device. It was created concurrently with NBA Street Vol. 3 and had components from Vols. 2 and 3 and numerous new features.
King of the Courts is the primary game mode. A boss figure owns each of the eleven courts. The game’s purpose is to hold and defend all of the courts by beating the boss figure on each court and any opponents to your claim to the court.
The player begins by designing their baller and squad. Most courts are initially locked, and to unlock others, the player must participate in a tournament-style progression on each court. Winning the final match against the boss character allows the player to own that court, unlock other courts, and take a member of the vanquished team.
Two mini-games are included as quick distractions when there isn’t enough time for an entire game or just for fun.
The Shot Blocker mini-games purpose is simply what the name implies – you are a single player facing a changing number of shooters, and you are responsible for preventing their shots from hitting the net. The game is over if you throw too many strikes in a row. Points for blocking are highest close to the shooters and lowest near the basket, although getting into position for a block takes longer the further you are from the hoop. The more shots you block in a row, the faster you get points. A “money ball” is tossed occasionally, and stopping it earns you extra points. If you perform well enough, you advance to the next level.
Arcade Shootout is similar to an arcade basketball machine in that you must sink as many baskets as possible before time runs out. You will move to the next level if you collect the required number of baskets for that level. Each story is unique, with many baskets organized in various patterns and each with a special bonus or point worth. Some baskets move back and forth to provide variety, making them even harder to strike. Making two or three baskets with the same ball earns you bonus points.
Multiplayer features include two-player network play through the PSP’s built-in wireless network and Party Play, where players compete for the most incredible score in the mini-games on the same PSP.
WiFi multi-play versions for conventional three-on-three pickup games and multiplayer modes like Shot Blocker and Arcade Shootout are available. Shot Blocker multiplayer pits you against another player on the same court to stop the same shots. You compete on the same machine to obtain more points than your opponent in Arcade Shootout multiplayer.
