BIT.TRIP VOID

Bit. Trip Void is one of six Bit—trip games popularized by Nintendo’s Wii Ware download service.

Bit. Trip Void combines bullet hell shoot-em-ups with rhythm games, with players controlling a black void rather than a spacecraft or other attacking object. Essentially, a black circle that behaves like a black hole. Tiny black or white squares are fired at the player from all angles, usually in repetitive sequences. Black shots must be absorbed, while white ones must be avoided. Each black bullet the player collects causes the void and combo multiplier to increase. However, each white shell undoes everything and resets the void and combo multiplier to zero.

Players can press a button to shrink the void to average size without losing their combo multiplier. This is essential after collecting a significant amount of black bullets because the hole might grow to screen-filling levels, making it hard to dodge approaching white physical pallets. Furthermore, players may be able to deflect white bullets, which is vital in the gameplay. If players miss too many black shots or collide with too many white shells, they are transported to a “netherworld.” The game will be finished if they continue to fail with the black or white covers.

The game is divided into three levels: three checkpoints and a boss encounter. The game supports simultaneous play for up to four people. However, the levels remain the same from the single-player game.
